about
this song is a part of our larger project (coming soon) that explores our sense of identity as we experience what it means to be in our 20s in today’s world. inspired by a car crash that ganes and jenks were in, Something New was recorded in 2020 before covid changed it all. this song reflects on the idea that while not all change is good, it is necessary for growth.
lyrics
We’ve struck gold oh too many times
For it to possibly persuade you now
From ever falling misaligned
Where everybody else has hit the ground
And though I never thought that
You and I could reach this height
We’ve struck gold one too many times
And when the life in your eyes bleeds through
You will see something new
This road’s been paved with sweat and blood
But it’s the price I pay to hold you near
And still it may not be enough
But I’d just like to say I’m glad you’re here
And though you never knew just what it took me to get here to you
This road’s been paved with sweat and blood
When the life in your eyes bleeds through
You will see something new
And by the sight of your smile, it’s true
We can be something new
Something new...
We had fallen in deep and you saw what it was doing to me
I was practically hallucinating
Nabbed my fix, and the feeling was illuminating
But I just couldn’t shake it
Out my ear, saying everything but what I wanted
I was breathing but unconscious
When you grabbed my hand and I thought that you were in a hurry
I didn’t see the bullet coming…
